The Fanattics System

Why Attic Insulation Matters

Most roofing companies ignore what's under the shingles. We take a system approach, ensuring your attic insulation and ventilation work together to protect your home and your wallet.

Damaged attic with poor insulation and heat buildup

Poor Insulation and poor ventilation

Heat buildup leads to mold growth, ice dams, and skyrocketing utility costs. Beyond energy costs, inadequate attic insulation creates a cascade of secondary problems. When warm air from your living space rises into a cold, under-insulated attic in winter, it carries moisture with it. Without proper ventilation to exhaust that moisture, it condenses on roof decking and framing.

Professional installation of blown-in attic insulation

Fanattics Solution

Ontario homes lose more energy through the attic than through any other part of the building envelope. The National Building Code of Canada recommends a minimum of R-60 for attic insulation in our climate zone — the equivalent of approximately 16–18 inches of blown-in material. The majority of homes built before 2010 fall significantly short of this.

Slash Energy Bills
Properly installed blown-in insulation creates a thermal barrier that keeps your HVAC from working overtime year-round.
ROI ?
Proper attic insulation, installed to the correct depth and coverage with no gaps or voids, is one of the highest-return home improvement investments available to Ontario homeowners.

PREMIUM INSULATION
MATERIALS

We use industrial-grade materials to create a complete thermal envelope for your home, ensuring maximum efficiency and long-term durability.

BLOWN-INSULATION
Cellulose InsulationEco-friendly and sustainable, cellulose is made from recycled paper fibers treated for fire and pest resistance. Its dense, loose-fill nature allows it to pack tightly into gaps, providing excellent air-sealing properties and consistent thermal performance in Ontario's cold winters.Fibreglass InsulationA reliable industry standard, fibreglass is composed of fine glass fibers that are naturally non-combustible and moisture-resistant. Available in batts or loose-fill, it offers a lightweight, durable solution for thermal protection and sound dampening across walls, attics, and crawlspaces.
OUR HYBRID APPROACH
The spray foam hybrid approach, often referred to as the "flash and batt" method, is a cost-effective insulation strategy widely used in Ontario to balance performance and budget. This technique involves applying a thin layer (typically 1 to 2 inches) of closed-cell spray foam directly against the exterior sheathing to create a seamless air and vapour barrier. The remainder of the attic floor is blown insulation.
TIME TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT MATERIALS YOUR ATTIC?
During your free site visit, we assess your attic's specific conditions — current insulation level, moisture history, clearance height, ventilation status, and any existing air sealing deficiencies — and recommend the right material and installation depth. Both options are available; we do not steer you toward one based on margin.

The Process

A high-performance system approach to transforming your attic into a clean, energy-efficient environment.

01
FREE SITE VISIT & ATTIC ASSESSMENT
We strip out old, contaminated, or inefficient insulation (if necessary) using high-powered vacuums, ensuring a clean slate for your home's thermal barrier.
02
VENTILATION CHECK
Insulation and ventilation are assessed together. If your attic does not have adequate airflow before installation, adding insulation without correcting it will trap moisture and create mold conditions. Any required ventilation improvements are included in your project scope — not treated as a separate upsell.
03
AIR SEALING
Before insulation is installed, we seal all major air bypass points with spray foam: pot lights, plumbing and electrical penetrations, attic hatch perimeter, and partition top plates. This step alone can reduce heat loss by 20–30% and is always completed before blown-in material is added.
04
BLOWN INSULATION FROM THE ROOF VENT HOLE!?
Our equipment can stay outside your home. Insulation is blown in through a flexible hose from the rooftop vent hole — no machinery inside your living area, no mess tracked through your home. We install to the depth required to achieve R-60 or your target R-value, confirmed with depth markers placed across the attic floor.
05
POST INSPECTION
We inspect coverage across the full attic floor, confirm ventilation pathways at soffits and ridge are unobstructed, and photograph the completed installation. You receive documentation of the installed R-value — useful for any rebate applications or home sale disclosure.
